Kukenan and Roraima Tepuy

Algunas historia indigenas, cuentan sobre la creacion de los Tepuy, uno de ellos El Autana tepuy, se ha hecho llamar tras innumerables generaciones, el Tepuy maravilloso "Wahari Kuawai" , El Árbol de la Vida, para los miembros de la etnia "Piaroa" aquí comenzó todo. "El primer Pemón, Makunaima, y sus compañeros, comían y bebían del árbol mágico Wazacá, pero un día Ma´nápe decidió cortarlo y echarlo abajo.

Akuli el agutí, muy inteligente, se negó, ya que el árbol proveía todo lo necesario para la subsistencia. "¡No lo hagas! No sólo perderemos sus dones, sino que una gran inundación arrasará la Tierra..."

Como Ma´nápe era obsecado(rebelde), desoyó(desobedeció) los consejos del Agutí y, empuñando su gran hacha se dirigió a talar el árbol, pero la misma rebotó inofensivamente sobre el duro tronco. Por medio de un hechizo, ablandó la corteza, con lo que pudo al fin hundir el filo en la sagrada madera.

Akuli, viendo tratando de evitar la inundación, canturreando su ensalmo para ablandar el recio árbol.

Pero los demás Pemones, decididos a evitar que acabara su tarea, volvieron al árbol duro de nuevo con un contrahechizo, pero en esta feroz lucha terminó venciendo el leñador. El árbol de la vida se derrumbó con estrépito sobre la tierra. Del tocón mutilado hundido en tierra se formó, pues, el gigantesco (Roroima) "Tepuy Roraima", en cuya cima viven los espíritus malignos. Del tronco cortado salió una gran agua que inundó la Tierra entera, y así, por la maldad de Ma´nápe y tal cual Akuli lo había predicho, los Pemones asistieron al alzamiento del primer Tepuy y todos los hombres padecieron la Gran Inundación".
